A Scoop of Nostalgia: Muscat's Oldest Ice Cream Parlour - Softy

On the way from Hamriya to Ruwi, there lies a historic landmark that has been delighting locals and visitors alike for generations. This iconic ice cream parlour, one of the oldest in Muscat, began in 1975 and has been serving classic, light, and affordable ice creams for a whopping 50 years!

The ice cream at this parlour is simple, made by Softy themselves. They offer their classic Vanilla with a choice of strawberry or chocolate mix, according to your preference. In front, you can see various flavors lined up in a tray, and you're sure to get confused as to which one to order. Choose a container size from those displayed on the left and order your favorite flavors.

The rate is determined by the container size you select, rather than the flavor you choose.

First, we went for the classic cone ice cream - Vanilla and Chocolate mix. The ice cream was not overly creamy, and the sweetness was just right.

Next, we opted for the next container size to order three scoops each of Oreo, Butterscotch, and Kulfi.

Despite the absence of seating and limited parking, this ice cream parlour remains a hub of activity. In the evening hours, we were surprised to see the footfall. Many families were coming, and the kids were leaning on the glass to get a glimpse of the ice cream and to order their favorite flavors.

As there is a very limited parking facility, you may also order while sitting in your car. There is one person who takes orders outside. The popularity of this place transcends generations, with parents who once frequented the parlour now bringing their own children to experience the same delightful flavors.

The same staff has been serving loyal customers for quite some time, creating a sense of familiarity and warmth that is hard to find elsewhere.

The posters hanging on the wall are the original ones that were displayed when the parlour opened in 1975.

Its worth to note that there is no card payment option , only code or cash payment  and luckily we ended up having the exact cash to pay :)

This historic ice cream parlour in Ruwi is more than just a place to enjoy a sweet treat; it gives a feeling of a journey back in time and is a nostalgic gathering spot for generations of families. While it may not offer parking or seating, the magic lies in the simplicity and authenticity of the experience.
